Pause — Complete — Use — Must Resume Download AGAIN

Great idea for those of us with limited internet, download by wifi in town, learn offline at home in the boonies. Biggest flaw for me is if downloading "course A" paused at 42%, then completed when next online and start using the course. Then when "course B” begins downloading, course A resets to 42% and needs to RESUME to completion YET AGAIN. Frustrating and a huge waste of time and data. Please address with next update, or advise solutions. Thanx!

LinkedIn ruins anything they touch. Lynda.com used to be my goto site for instructional videos. The instruction content is still excellent, but the site, customer support and app isn’t up to what Lynda.com used to be. I installed the app and downloaded a couple of courses. Now the app just crashes everytime I try to open it.

BUGGY! Doesn’t download courses - isn’t that whole point?

I love Lynda.com, but this app is half-hearted. The only thing it aims to do is download courses for offline viewing and it can’t do that! Courses start to download but don’t finish downloading, or they download and claim to be 100% complete, but mysteriously revert to downloading the course. You can’t watch a course until it’s 100% downloaded, so the app is effectively useless.

awesome videos !!!

nice initiative of company but it really need to extend its courses in different platform …must need increase its videos length , overall its good !!!

it doesn’t work

Downloads don’t complete. Other times I will watch it go from 0-100% and when I try to watch it doesn’t work. I have to delete it and start over, crossing my fingers a little harder. It’s too bad I paid extra money to watch them offline...

Handy app

As a Lynda subscriber, it is nice to have these files without streaming. The only drawback is its a slow process to get the files. Although many reviews say you have to wait for the complete download to view is incorrect. You just double click on the perecentage and whatever is finished plays. Yoiu can check to see what is complete by looking in your movies folder/Lynda. I like it and use it often.

2X speed please!

I love Lynda.com! I always watch at high speed on the Lynda site. I cuts my “class time” in half and I can read the text and absorb what I need to know. I won’t use the ‘offline’ app (other than for emergenies) until I can watch at higher speeds.

Can’t offload to flash drive

The app is overall good, but what would be nice is to change the download location to a flashdrive instead of the folder within the Movies. I only have a 256 GB ssd and it would a lifwesaver if I could move the 40 GB’s of videos to a flashdrive so I can free up my actual storage on my computer. I would also be nice if the movie files weren’t encrypted into an unplayable .mp4 file, but I likey doubt that will change :(

Doesn’t recognize membership

I love the idea of being able to review the courses off-line. The installation for my Windows 10 desktop works fine. The MAC OS X version doesn’t appear to work. I can’t get past the login screen on the MAC even though it appears to recognize my account. Please test your software before releasing it.

does not work

how do i download from lynda.com? very obscure.

Good idea bad execution

Why do I have to pay for a year of premium to download 1-3 videos for offline viewing? I’m willing to pay the monthly premium price for that content , but not for year when I probalby need 1 month’s worth. The bad plan offering plus the already mentioned shortcomings of the app made this a non-starter for me.

Not bad

The only thing that I would recommend at this time, is to prevent the screensaver from activating while watching offline videos. I had to turn off my screensaver in order to watch a video.

Great , but some features should be improved

Offline videos features are great, but its missing the ability to change the playback speed of the videos. Anyway I could do that while offline ? ====Update now has the playback speed feature===== I am taken to the beginning of a video whenever I quit the app. Would be great to be able to resume. Clicking on the right/left of the big play/pause button changes the videos unpredictably.

A great product

Update for version 1.3.1: Zounds! The big play/pause circle button that used to show up in the middle of the movie has gone!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a great relief. What a great improvement to usability. ———— Update for version 1.3.0: Yay! Now has playback speed control! There’s also a control on the playback control bar to cause the Lynda app window to zoom the player window so it fills the Lynda window and you can still resize the video by resizing the Lynda window. Was that there before and I didn’t see it or new? Well, it’s a very nice feature. There’s still one thing I would like to see changed and it’s that big playback/pause button that shows up in the middle of the movie screen. It’s real annoying. I was tempted to give the app only 4 stars because that button, but overall, the Lynda player app works very well now. Thanks, Lynda! ———— Update for version 1.2.2: Still no playback speed controls. Sigh. Is it really that difficult to do? ———— Original review: Really appreciate the offline mode that keeps track of where I am and syncs with the Lynda cloud so I can switch between my laptop and a mobile device and still pick up where I left off. I have two issues that are very annoying and they are the reason for only 3 stars. First as has been mentioned is the absence of speed control. A good note in playback control though is a 10 second backup button - because life has distractions. The biggest annoyance for me is a large play/pause button that shows up in the middle of the screen when I pause the video. Every time I pause to study some code being displayed or copy a link reference or something, that stupid big play button shows up right on top of what I’m trying to read. It *eventually* disappears, but then if I just touch the mouse or switch focus to my editor, the darn thing shows up again! Finally, when I hit play, the video starts and the button shows up as a pause button, blocking the video again. Please!!! And, that in-your-face button isn’t even needed at all as there is a play/pause button conveniently out of the way on the slide up play bar. When not in full screen, it shows the course list to the side indicating where you are in the course. It is handy, but I would like to be able to hide it and the course description at the bottom without having to put the player in full screen mode. When in the middle of lessons, I don’t need this info and it is just stealing screen space - and depending on the course one is taking, we need a lot of screen space for all our course work and note taking while we’re watching a lesson. Thanks, Lynda. Fix up these things a bit and I will be happy to edit my review. The app should have gotten 5 stars out the gae, but those are big misses.

Great

The offline download feature is great . If support for roku or chromecast can be added in this app, that will be of great help. It will allow to play the video in tv in a big screen.

Great Start

I adore Lynda. So much so, that after 2 years of a free membership through my workplace, I bought my own membership when I left that job. This app is great that I can watch videos and catch up on concepts even when I am not connected to the internet. It would be great, however, to even allow access to the entire catalogue of videos offered like the Lynda app for Windows allows. Also, an Apple TV native app would be very welcome as well
