Lynda.com App Reviews

Buggy

Buggy as hell.

Annoying - Have to be a Premeium User

I pay about $30 USD every Month since 6 years and LOVE Lynda.com Now they have this app. And while they let you download it, they wont let you connect because I am not a premium user. I pay a premium but NOT the one which enebles me to download the course. WHICH I dont want to do anyway…. I has been possible, since ever, to download Lynda Courses and watch them offline. I thoght the app was going to be for all paying users and somehow cache the course for a few days or so… The extra premium was ALWAYS for the course data-files which I guess would save some time for some folks that were writing along. However, that someone like me that pays $30 a month and DONT need the data-files cant even use this app - is IMO appalling…. But then again, Lynda is Lynda no more… It is LinkedIN.

Good app but needs an update

- Remove the huge pause/play icon from the middle of the screen. It’s blocking the video whenever the mouse is moved! - I get that the app is designed for offline viewing only, but it’s more convieniet to be able to search for online videos inside the app (like the iPhone app). Switching between the app and the browser is distracting.

A little too simple for daily use.

The lynda.com app is great for extending the usage of the lynda.com website. It would need a little help to be able to replace the website usage. As an offline viewer only, the app isn’t that useful.

Good but need some features

It does a good job of letting you view offline, but when downloading the tutorials after a while it loses the connection to the servers and stop downloading, so you need to pause and resume the download. Something that needs to be added is searching and adding videos directly from the application, instead of going to lynda.com and doing it there. Another missing feature is hiding the app. Command-H does not work and it is annoying to have to go to the corner to hide it, or to command-tab a few times to cycle apps and the command-tab-h to hide it. It is a command that should be instantly added to any application that is createdm like command-q to quit or command-w to close a window.

Annual Premium

I’m already a premium member of lynda.com but Lynda does not let me use this app beacuse i’m not an annual premium member. That’s not make sense for me. I’ve rights to download course metarials and watch videos but they do not let me use their app. I hate it!

Good start

Great, I’ve been waiting for the ability to save Lynda videos offline for ages! I think that the app player should include all the features that the web player has, esp. playback speed. I often watch vids at 1.5x or even 2x speed because the voice-over is quite slow. Also, I find the lack of ability to sync entire playlists frustrating.

Loads to blank screen

I would like this to be a streamlined version of the website with the ability to choose videos to download for offline. BI don’t like that it loads to a blank screen with no obvious way to browse or add videos.

Disappointed

I have tried to use this app for two months without good success. Access is integrated with my LinkedIn account but I still can’t login. I am continuaously told to contact LinkedIn to change my password but that is not the issue. My username and password are both valid as I am able to login to LinkedIn without a problem. Contacting support for Lynda.com has been useless. Why pay for an app that I can’t use??? Very disappointed...

Useless. Doesn’t work with my account.

I have an anual account with Lynda.com and can access my courses and playlists fine using a web browser and with my iPhone app. But when I try to use this Mac app version of Lynda.com, all it says is “You don’t have any downloaded courses yet.” That’s it. There are no controls, menus, links, swipe gestures, nothing. Its completely unusable with a static useless interface. What’s up with that? (I’m running El Capitan, v10.11.5)

Not the best from a company that teaches software design

I’ve been watching Lynda.com since about 2009 and have found the quality of their videos consistently good. I was very happy when they started releasing these apps that allow me to download videos to watch on the go, and while the iOS app is decent enough, the desktop app is almost not worth the effort. The video will sometimes change playback speed when I switch into or out of full screen mode. Clicking on the right side of the video while in full screen mode sometimes selects a different video from the list (a list which is obscured by the full screen video). There are no transcripts. I’m pretty much stuck with this as I need to watch these videos on the go, but the user experience is quite frustrating.

App worked for me

After reading the reviews about this app, I hesitated over whether I should download it or not. But there was a course that I badly needed to take for something I was doing. I downloaded the app, logged in with my premium LinkedIn account and went to the course and clicked on the offline view. It downloaded the video files, although it did get stuck at 88% at one point and I had to restart it. Afterwards, however, I watched the tutorials and the app worked as promised. I’m not sure why it had such bad reviews. Maybe I’ll find a problem along the way.

Great for offline viewing. Needs more options.

Works great for downloading lessions off of lynda.com for offline use. Some useful features that could be added would be notetaking and the ability to view the libray and edit playlists from the app.

I love being able to watch movies without internet access

I can now finally download courses and watch them on my laptop while I travel. This is better for me than using the iPad download since I have a lot more free space on my laptop than my tablet. Thanks for releasing this!

This is the best site to learn new things

I am happy to know that we are able to watch our courses offline. this is defenetely the best app that they created for the app store...

Oh, lynda comes to the desktop version!!

I am a real learner and need to get food everyday by lynda. From the recommendations through the lynda apps on the iso devices, writing feedbacks to the authors and get the most friendly and genuine help as well as answers, I have fall in love with this company… I was watching a course using my mac just now and found that lynda has come to a desktop version app!! I downloaded immediately and had a glimpse of the details. The date shows that this app just came out on 18th this month. I just feel so excited to learn through Lynda and this time, it seems to have more functions to add in the desktop version app. Anyway, it is the greatest service company that I ever known.

Love the Courses, Not the Desktop App

The courses are very good. And the option to watch them at a faster pace makes this a no brainer. The problem is with the desktop app. Some of the coursesi tried to download are stuck at 0%, deleting them and starting the download agin does not help. Please come out with a fix soon.

Love Lynda.com… Hate the app.

I have been a premium member for many years now. I absolutely LOVE lynda.com. The app, however is not great, to say the least. Downloading is finicky, and you can’t change the playback speed of videos (this is a dealbreaker for me). Please fix the app!

No Speed Controls?!!? Please Add Speed Controls. Thank You.

I am a big proponent of Lynda and have been a subscriber for 5 years now. One of the best attributes of viewing the videos online is the ability to watch at 1.5x speed so as to not get bogged down with the conversational paces of most of the videos. This helps to get through a subject or chapter quickly and then drill down later if I need to. I would rate this app 5 stars if this feature were added; otherwise it’s not worth using to me (hence the single star) as there are other tutorial resources that do allow this speed adjustment for offline use. Help me rate this 5 stars and add this feature, por favor!

I like it, but it could do more

The idea behind this app is great, and I love having access directly to the Lynda curses I am following on my Mac. There are some implementation annoyances, that I am sure can be handled by the developer team for future releases. The ability to control the speed of playback is not an optional feature. it is a must! Please, find a way to put it to work on the app!
